Accotink UU ChurchWe look forward to your contribution to beautify our sanctuary. Listed below are some guidelines for submitting works of art for display. Your work will be treated with dignity and care while part of the exhibit. We appreciate your skill and your willingness to share your art with others. We will be changing exhibits with the change of seasons. We are seeking a multimedia exhibition to include oils, watercolors, quilts, weavings, crochets, embroideries, to name just a few. Work may be abstract or representational. All artwork accepted for exhibition must be picked up by the artist or her/his designate by the date listed below. You may submit as many works as you are willing. Your work will be juried by the Sanctuary Arts Working Group.
Artwork submitted for display should:
- follow the theme of Spring,
- have an uplifting theme, be life affirming, dignified and contemplative,
- reflect the 7 UU principals,
- be appealing and accessible to all ages and not have a violent or sexual connotation,
- be in any medium or technique but must be easily hung and equipped with a method for hanging (i.e. quilts should have a sleeve in the back for a bar)we recommend no more than 25 pounds,
- not be installation art or art work that uses floor space. All work must be able to be hung,
- exemplify the best technique the artist has to offer,
- should be able to be hung flat against the wall.
To submit your work, please complete the form attached with a photo or reference to a website where a picture of your work can be seen for each piece of art you are submitting by February 14, 2009. The jury process will be completed by March 1, 2009. Once selected, your work must be at the church by March 7, 2009. Each work must be clearly labeled on the back with your name, address and phone number. No work will be accepted without proper identification. Each piece must be “hang ready” with appropriate wiring or sleeves. This exhibit will be taken down on June 15 and we ask that you pick up your works by June 19, 2009.
