The Complete Guide to Small Group Ministry by Robert L. Hill (Skinner House Books)
We have a general sign-up each fall, although new members can be welcomed into a group any time of the year. Depending on the level of interest, there may be, at times, a waiting period before a space in a group is available.
No. We ask that couples sign up for separate groups so that they can expand their circle of friends and there are no potential barriers to speaking freely within the group.
Meetings are two hours long and take place in people’s homes. The meetings begin with a chalice lighting and an opening reading provided by a group member. Then members check in. The primary focus is a topic with a reading and questions chosen by the Covenant Group Ministry. The questions help focus the discussion. The meeting ends with checkout on the group process and a closing reading.
Each Covenant Group identifies in their own words what it means to listen to each other with respect and to value differences. After agreeing on a written covenant, every member shares responsibility for group leadership and behavior. See some samples of written covenants.
The topics cover relationship issues within a community, spiritual journeys and value issues. These discussions are based on individuals’ experiences and values. Visit the topics page to see the current list of topics.
We ask for an initial six-month commitment to a group. We seek a cross-section of the church community in each group. The yearly sign-up provides an opportunity to change meeting times or groups.

We look for candidates based on their ability to listen and awareness of group process. The current facilitators screen future facilitators. Contact a current facilitator if interested.
