The Tree of Remembrance

Accotink UU Church has a beautiful and permanent way for you to celebrate and preserve the memory of the lives of loved ones. The engraved leaves of the Tree of Remembrance are a perpetual reminder of the church’s members, friends and families that have meant so much to us all.

All persons who are members or friends of AUUC at the time of death and their families may be commemorated with an engraved leaf on the tree.

Where is the Tree of Remembrance Located?

The Tree of Remembrance is located in our church home on the landing of “Memory Stair”, overlooking the windows with a view of the garden and the church grounds. The tree is artisan crafted in bronze and plexiglass with engraved brass leaves.

How can we memorialize someone on the tree?

Members and friends of AUUC and their family members may be memorialized by making a donation of at least $500 to the Accotink Memorial Fund and specifying the exact wording of the leaf engraving. For more information contact the congregational administrator.

How will AUUC benefit from my donation?

All donations will be added to the Accotink Memorial Fund. The fund will be used to purchase the tree, engrave the leaves, maintain the tree and to plan, build and maintain a outdoor memorial and columbarium.

How will donations to the Memorial Fund be used?

The Memorial Fund is dedicated solely to the planning, building and perpetual maintenance of memorials for the members and friends of AUUC and their families. The fund has already been used to purchase the Tree of Remembrance as the indoor portion of the Accotink Memorials. More information on the Tree is on the other side of this brochure. The memorial on the church grounds will be planned to include placement of cremains in underground niches/columbarium or by scattering and as a venue for services to remember deceased church members and friends.

How do I make a donation directly to the Memorial Fund ?

Donations may be made directly to the Memorial Fund by making a check payable to AUUC and note “Memorial Fund” in the memo line. All donations of $500 or more will be recognized by displaying the name of the donor on the Memorial Fund plaque in the church building, near the Tree of Remembrance.
